Things were always strange in the Mansion, she figured, and that wasn’t anything to scoff at. Jack pushed her hair back with a little smile, at least she knew what she was looking for, and knew it was out there and all that. Tilting her head, the woman nodded a little as she glanced at the fossil, hoping to see it magically appear next to him. It wasn’t going to happen at the moment, but hey, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility at this point, now was it? Hmm, it was going to be interesting, and that was alright no matter what, but she had to figure out what to do at the moment. How many drawers were there at the moment anyway? Raising an eyebrow, she wished she had counted them before going through them, not to mention there were a lot of hidden compartments, she could certainly tell that from her training as well.

There were a lot of things she picked up on during her time in the Labs, and this was one of them thanks to the Mansion. She knew some carpentry and architecture, which was definitely helpful when it all came down to it. Jack smiled a little and shook her head, unsure of what to do at the moment as she looked into a drawer. It had a false bottom, and so, sighing as she glanced over at Bigfoot to make sure he was still doing alright (which he was), she popped it open with a little pressure toward the front and looked within. A crystal lay nestled in the center of the hidden compartment, and she cheered as she went to pick it up, holding it up to the light as she smiled. This wasn’t the thrumming she felt though, strangely, as once she got used to this thrumming, she could still feel more. A raised eyebrow would let anyone watching know that she was confused.

Well that was something, she figured as she put the crystal into her bag, where Bigfoot started to sniff at it and wondered what it was. He would figure it out eventually, she figured, but if not it didn’t really matter, he wasn’t going to do anything with it, it was almost as big as he was! Jack chuckled a little and shouldered her bag again, nothing else was in this room, the extra thrumming she felt was a little more distant at this point. Chewing her lip a little, she hoped she wasn’t after a wild goose or anything, that would be the worst of it all, she figured with a snort. The Longneck in her bag was confused about this clear grey crystal, however, and licked it once or twice. It shocked him, however, and he squealed as he backpedaled a little, much to the woman’s amusement. That would teach him not to mess with her crystals, she figured with a small nod.

Whatever happened, whatever they might find from now on, at least she had another crystal. Sure she could trade them to other people, but most likely she would use them to make more nodes until there was nothing else to learn from them. Smirking a bit, she wondered what it would be like to know all of the magic in the Labs. It would certainly be interesting, she knew with a small laugh. Jack chewed on her lip as she got to the bottom of a staircase and stared upwards, wondering what was up there. That’s where the thrumming was coming from, at least, or at least from what she could tell. She put a foot on the creaking staircase and scowled, of course it would squeak and creak whenever she stepped on it, it would work out no matter what. What if she found some more at this point? Jack chuckled and looked at the banister, wondering if the ornament at the bottom would come off...

It was funny the way the Mansion worked sometimes, she knew with a little smile. Bigfoot was with her and gaining some experience with things, she should probably give him some more nutrients soon, but wasn’t sure on that just yet. Smiling, she wondered what was going to happen at the moment, and she wished she knew how many more crystals there were in the Mansion right now, but knew that things were going to be rough. Jack just knew that some things were better than others, and she needed to get some stuff done. If she had enough for a node once her soul restored itself, then she would be happy. Of course she needed some more mind crystals and some more healing berries, but she could go mining for those and then harvest some berries from her King of the Evergreen eventually this year. It would be good for her to have a nice little stock.

If there was another crystal out there, then how many more in total would there be? Maybe they just showed up when they wanted to show up or something, that was definitely something to worry about for now. Hmm, she wanted all of the magic she could get her hands on, but that wasn’t going to happen for quite some time, she knew. There were massive lists of spells at her job as the Archmage’s Understudy, and she poured over them time and time again as she tried to figure out which nodes she wanted to go for next. Next, of course, was order as long as she could get all of the crystals for it. That was the issue, she needed the crystals, and they were proving to be rather difficult to find at this point. If she could only find some at Curious Collections or at the market, but so few citizens wanted to trade them, it was difficult.

Whatever, Jack figured as she unscrewed the ornament on the banister and blinked as an eye blinked back at her. The two little legs propelled it forward and she caught it before it fell down onto the floor so far away from where it was. She dropped it into the bag next to Bigfoot, who gave a wary noise and look at the walking eye, before she screwed the ornament back in place with a little shrug and started up the steps again. In all honesty she was getting kind of tired, it had gotten late and she knew it was only a matter of time before she passed out on her feet. It was time to find a bedroom, she figured as she reached the top of the stairs. There were doors all down the hallway, and Bigfoot watched as she tried the first doorknob, opening the door with a little creak. Maybe things weren’t so bad right now, she really had no idea, and she just wished she could find something good, like the other crystal she could feel thrumming.

The door opened onto a little patio it looked like, or an overhang over the front of the Mansion. Jack stepped out onto it, much to Bigfoot’s concern as he trumpeted from the bag, and looked out over the large grounds. It looked nice out, though there wasn’t much light to go around, and she chuckled a little as she thought about it. Well then, everything would be fine, she knew with a little nod, and she wondered what else they might find before she found a bedroom. Bigfoot was probably pretty tired as well, and even though he could sleep in her bag, she figured she would give him something to drink before he fell asleep, and so she stepped back through the door and into the hallway again, wondering what kind of room they would find next. At least she had Bigfoot for company and not a young animal like she usually did, that was the worst whenever they ran off without giving notice.

Everything would work out in the long run she knew, but what was going to happen in the long run? Jack knew that she would figure things out eventually as she looked at the doors. The next one was most logical she figured and opened it up. There wasn’t much in there, just looked like a storage room with a bunch of dusty crates and barrels stacked up to the ceiling. Still though, she stepped inside and looked around a little, tapping on some of the crates to see what was going on at the moment. Hopefully something was going to be in one of them, but they sounded empty for the moment. Whatever, that wasn’t all that bad when it came down to it, but she sighed a little as she thought about it all the same time. Maybe someone else had been in and gone through all of them before she had gotten there, and she shrugged a little for a little while.

Jack was tired though, so she stepped out of the room again and shut the door, patting Bigfoot on the head with her free hand. She wasn’t sure they would find a bedroom on this floor, and the fossil was starting to get thirsty from what she could tell. The other Omega-3 nutrient would be next, and she was sure he would drink that up pretty well so far. Smiling a little, she hoped that it would do something good for him, but she really had no way of knowing that. Maybe he would sprout something as well, who knew what that was going to do to him. All she could do was hope that things would work out for him when he evolved. Jack pushed her hair back and then wandered to the next door, only Bigfoot’s head poking out of the bag for the moment. What all was she going to do with him when he grew? That was an issue she knew was going to happen no matter what.

When he evolved, he would be fine, she just hoped it wouldn’t hurt him or anything. That was something she was really worried about, she always hoped that her animals wouldn’t get hurt, even in the Pit she hoped for that, though it was almost guaranteed to happen there as well. Oh well, at least they were healed pretty quickly and easily, she had even stepped in a time or two when they were down on healers. She made a pretty good potion from time to time, and she could heal once a day through her magic, that light node definitely helped out from time to time. Smiling at herself as Bigfoot stared at her a little from the bag, confused, she hoped that everything would be alright in the end. Whatever happened, she was sure he would be magnificent when he evolved, but she had to be careful, at least she already had his nutrients, as expensive as they had been.

Well at least things were going to be alright in the end. He would evolve to be great and she would work with him some more and that was all there was to it. Jack rubbed her face a little and opened the next door, sighing with relief when she saw a bedroom inside, with a little bathroom off through another door in the bedroom. There, finally she would be able to rest, and having a shower wouldn’t be a horrible idea as well, she figured as she closed and locked the door behind her after stepping inside. The woman put her bag down on a nightstand next to the large bed and pulled Bigfoot out of it, putting him on the bed. He ran around a little for a bit with a trumpeting noise, happy to be out of the bag for a little while, before he laid down a little and rested his head on the comforter in front of himself.

A shower would feel lovely, she knew, but she had to get Bigfoot a little more situated than he already was at the moment. Jack chewed on her lip a little and set the little bowl he had drank out of earlier on the nightstand. She pulled the last bottle of Omega-3 out of her bag and poured it into the bowl before making sure that Bigfoot could reach it. He had to reach just a little off of the bed, but he wasn’t going to fall off. Once he realized he could put his front feet on the nightstand, he was good as he lapped up the liquid. Jack nodded a little, there, that would work for him, and she turned back to her bag and dug through it a little. It was a good thing she could fit a lot of stuff in there, there was a little magic to it for it to hold as much as it could at this point, and she was fine with that, it fit her so well when she thought about it, she figured with a grin.

There was a change of clothes in her bag, somewhere, and she dug through it, upsetting the few pocketpets she had in there already until she found them. She then re-situated the little things in there so they would be more comfortable before she hauled herself into the bathroom. Jack left the door open so she could keep an ear and an eye out on the fossil as he drank while she was in the shower. She stripped down and stood in the hot running water for a little while before getting clean and then stepping back out and drying off with a thick and fluffy towel. That was the best part of it all, and she hoped that things would work out for her in the long run, she thought as she got dressed. The clothes were comfortable but not quite the clothing she should sleep in, but that was fine, she had slept in weirder situations she was sure.

It was going to be a long night, feeling the new thrumming of a nearby crystal she hadn’t found yet. Oh well, she would get used to it, she figured as she shut off the lights and crawled under the thick covers of the bed. It was nice and warm, and it cut the chill out of the air as she laid her head on the pillow. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to fall asleep, but when Bigfoot crawled onto the pillow next to her head, she was already sleeping. He watched her for a little while before falling asleep as well, and the moon shined brightly through the window as they slept. At least they were getting a little rest for the moment, though her dreams were filled with thoughts of crystals thrumming all around her. She loved the sensation, it made her feel powerful, and she slept easily as she dreamed about it. Maybe things would be better the next day, there was no way to know for sure though, they both knew it.
