Linyü looked on at the spontaneous spectacle of the ungulate's announcement with a slightly bemused smile, giving a hesitant and somewhat lukewarm round of applause when it was done... But when it became clear that nothing more was expected of them beyond partaking in some refreshments and exchanging some trinkets for prizes, he breathed a long sigh, half relief and half weariness for the work that he had done. Digging was not particularly complex work, but it was tiring, and he could already feel from the soreness in his limbs that Seveth was going to have a plethora of complaints to levy at him tomorrow.
He offered his hand to Rei, but she shook her head, opting to fly alongside as they made their way to the refreshments. He took a cookie to break into pieces, dipping his own share in the tea before eating it to dull some of the sweetness.

The sweets in this city tended to be a bit too strong for his own palate, but with a drink to go with them, these weren't so bad. Rei enjoyed hers quietly; outwardly she didn't seem to have much of a reaction, but she did keep eating, and he could see her ears twitch occasionally in a gesture he had come to recognize as pleasure.
Once they were finished, the two made their way to the prize exchange. Now San was genuinely at a loss. As far as he could tell, the things on offer were trinkets and... creatures. Something about the latter left a bad taste in his mouth, but from what he understood, that was the way of things here -- so much of the business on all fronts was conducted with, and indeed sometimes by, the beasts. Rei was one too, in the minds of some of the denizens.

At least the creatures weren't live on location... Or at least he didn't think so, anyway. There were only vouchers, which the ungulate had mentioned being redeemable at the labs themselves. He knew it didn't make any real difference, but he felt somewhat less uneasy exchanging points for a token than for a real living, breathing animal, and it was certainly easier to sell a token on to an interested party, if he could find one.
After a short discussion with Rei on the particulars -- mostly to check if she was interested in any of the prizes on offer -- he approached with his requests. "Excuse me, I'd like to turn these in please," said Linyü, smiling hopefully at the ungulate. "Oh, and... thank you for setting all this up. The candy, and everything. My friend and I, we had fun." He gestured to Rei, who dipped her head, a gesture she had picked up from their fellows in Xinzhou that had apparently become habit.
With that, it was time for them to head home.

Show name: Walk a Mile Call name: Miles Gender: Male Species: Common Houluh Level: 20 [1/5] Loyalty: 42 [2/5] -stats- Stamina: 2 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 5 Special Abilities: None Moves: Bite Training Tricks Known: Name (1), Heel (1), Come (1), Search (2), Sit (1), Stay (1), Hold (1), Drop (1), Lay Down (1), Combat Crawl (2), Race (3) After all of that work, it was time for Kadin to take in his earnings and trade them in for some of the various things he could buy. There was... a lot to choose from. And he had, somehow, ended up with quite the number of points in order to trade in with. Now the decisions had to be made about what he was actually going to end up purchasing. There were a couple that were obvious answers, but others he needed a little more time to think about. Kadin perused the catalogues, Miles standing by his side with his tail slowly wagging, while his human considered deciding what, exactly, he would be trading in for. At the end of the day, he decided that he wanted more bags to trade in than he wanted some of the special work that was for sale. And he wanted as many new pets as possible, of course. So, finally, he had to request his purchases.

After managing to loose some of his goodie bags off on someone that would undoubtedly appreciate them more, the russet mammalian is much more pleased that now he could easily carry all of those things that he had to. It was still rather unwieldy, but it had went from a simple impossibility to a much easier one. He asks Auburn to move off of his shoulder and then guides her to sit next to him on the ground as he works out exactly how many 'points' he'd been tallied to have now, and what exactly would be the most economical use of what he had. He was fairly used to budgeting by this point, with his shop and all.
About the same time, Auburn gets a little bit bored. She was normally a very good girl, but today she had done quite a bit of work and was quite excitable. By the time that Renathan had even realized that she had moved an inch she was digging around in a few of the goodie bags that Renathan had left over. "Auburn! That's rude!" Still, what was done was done- the goodie bags had been opened.[Post 26]

Renathan doesn't really scold Auburn. In all truth she had a long day that day (just as he was) so it was a little bit understandable that she was acting out. In fact, he also could probably carry all of the stuff a little bit better without having to drag around the goodie-bags as were. Plus, he still had one unbothered, so that was enough for him. "It's okay Auburn." He gives her a pat. "These treats aren't for you though." His voice is soft, soft enough that he clearly heard someone begin addressing people a little ways away. Oh, that would mean that the lots had all been finished up- hopefully Someone found Something, surely?
He stands up, gathers his things up the rest of the way and goes out to listen to the officiant, Auburn trailing at his heels obediently. There is a small gathering of people a bit away, and that was where the russet mammalian found himself standing among the group to listen.[Post 27]

Renathan wasn't entirely sure what was going on, at first- he hadn't been entirely privy to the 'why' this was needing done, more that it was needing done and he could certainly help (being a person that had spent quite a bit of time digging in the earth in the mines, it really was not THAT much different). He had finished his spots a little bit early perhaps- but it was mostly because he had been behind from the beginning. It would seem that the entire hunt was over now, quite certainly. This was a parting sort of speech. Renathan begins to turn so that he could go back to the beverages (he was still SO Thirsty from all of that digging, and he needed to get a bowl of water for Auburn) he sees how distraught the Historians seem at this development. No one found anything of note, did they?
The mammalian keeps an eye out for a little bit more, and an ear as well. Auburn stuck to him like glue, even brushing against his ankle. She wasn't used to being around this many people.[Post 28]

Renathan isn't proud of eavesdropping, but he does to the best of his ability. He misses some of it, or maybe even most of it- but he gets the gist that maybe the Historical Society was not quite as vast as it used to be. He considers asking them about possibly joining (he really didn't have time to join a lot more, but he did know someone that might be interested in this sort of thing) but he felt as if it would be rude to do so. For a moment, he is suspended between wanting to ask, and wanting to not be in the way, and he eventually allows the 'politeness' to win out. The russet mammalian waves for Auburn to follow him, and they move over to the refreshments, Renathan having a few cookies and some fairly good tea, and Auburn with a bowl of water to slake her own thirst.
After they were finished there, Renathan takes another glance cast-back at the Historical Society individuals, and then murmurs something to himself beneath his mask. No, he aught not to get in the way. Like they'd need the help of the general populace, right?[Post 29]

Renathan was pretty ready to begin the process of getting his involvement wrapped up. After making sure that Auburn was done drinking her water and grabbing a few more of the cookies (perhaps he was being a little bit of a glutton- but they were GOOD, was that cinnamon or something?) he moves back over to the prize counter that he'd gotten the artsy items from earlier. There were a limited amount of those, but there were a few vouchers for... Apparently the Labs, and he had enough points to grab a couple of those still. It would be a waste not to, even though he wasn't sure if he wanted to train anything new himself.
He would still have a few points left over (apparently those coins were worth quite a bit!) but he figured that it wouldn't really be a loss to leave them be. After all, he mostly came here to help out a cause. Coming away with something in return was nice, but it was a completely unexpected boon for him.
He goes back up to the counter, Auburn in tow, and then asks- "Could I get a few more things?" He asks, and though he is being polite that perhaps sounds a little stupid coming from him. He's had a long day. "I'd like a couple of those vouchers, if possible."

Bringing the gem dragon had been a good call, of all the trinkets dug up, Ice had found them all. She hadn't been thrilled to hand the shiny ones over, true, but Nerius had been expecting that. Not that anything he, or anyone else, had found were of any historical significance. Their host sounded thrilled, as Nerius listened to his speech, understandable given it meant the construction could continue unhindered. The historians, who looked to be packing up, looked thoroughly miserable. It was a shame they hadn't found any ruins or relics, the possibility was what had drawn Nerius to the whole thing in the first place, but he doubted he had the same investment in it that they did. And, at least, it hadn't been a total loss on his part. The assorted trinkets he'd found had some value at least, and grabbing himself a snack, Nerius set to sorting through his finds. He'd found another one of those little pumpkin bags, adding the toys and candy to the others he'd opened, munching on a cookie. Ice wasn't interested in the sweets, but she was eyeing the tea set up as a snack, and had climbed up onto a chair, and was staring at it across the table. It was hard to be sneaky when one had an empathic link though, and Nerius glanced up from the items to give the gem dragon a look. "Ice, do not eat that teapot." She froze, one claw mid-reach across the table. They stared at each other for a moment, before the gem dragon withdrew, sitting back on the chair, and Nerius was able to finish sorting through the items. He had some he wanted to trade in, as well as a few things he wanted to buy, and headed up to the booth. "Hello, I'd like to trade in the voucher for the nyssa." He'd always found the species interesting, but didn't own one. "As well as some of my finds," Nerius set out a handful of glass coins, as well as the paper bird. "I'd like one of each of the sculptures, as well as the gallor." If his understanding of point values was correct, he should have enough, plus a little extra, "And goodie bags with the remaining points, if possible?"

And just like that, it was over. All of the archaeologists had packed up their bags, defeated and disappointed, and people were slowly trickling out of the Fairgrounds, either happy with what they had found or satisfied with the payment they had been given. "...I feel kind of bad for them." Icarus admitted, watching as the scientists retreated, practically with their tails between their legs. Fiera just shrugged. "Can't always get what you want, I guess. You can hope all you want, but sometimes what you need just isn't there. At least we'll be able to get a shiny something or other out of this, eh?" She said, smiling over her shoulder at him. She knew her consolation wasn't ideal, but... well, there wasn't much she could do to make him feel better. After all, she couldn't just summon ancient artifacts out of thin air (though that would be good for her finances). Still, she brought her harachiu over to the prize booth and began sorting herself out. Inventory: Opening: Trading In: Redeeming: (Ghaenelt)
