"...I think this dirt is broken, Fiera." Icarus said, kicking at the rocks. They hadn't found much of anything yet. "Don't be silly Icarus, that's impossible." The humanish said, agreeing with him internally. Still, perhaps there was something they were doing wrong in comparison to other people? "Here, let's try again. You go over there... and I'll dig here. Except this time, don't be afraid to dig really deep. Perhaps we're just skimming the surface." She said, shuffling over to another patch of dirt. The harachiu opened his mouth to protest, but sighed and began to dig, faster and deeper than before. He could argue, but what if she was right? Maybe they just needed to spend more time on a specific spot and not give up so fast. Once she was sure Icarus was settled at his own spot, Fiera nodded and got started on her own, heaving clods of dirt to either side. (Fiera digs in spot 117, Icarus digs in 115) Inventory:

Silver digs in lot #36:
There's a layer of dirt that somehow turns to mud halfway down (best not ask), but alas, while the digging is easier, it doesn't seem to produce anything.
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Silver has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kylma digs in lot #46:
At the other hole, there's certainly a lot of rocks and gravel, but nothing to find (Not even a treat! How rude).
( Kylma has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Leafy digs in lot #24:
Well, if there's archaeology to be had, it would need something much older than this coin to draw the historians. Still, it's pretty shiny! Worth a nice 15 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Leafy has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Naieth digs in lot #118:
Meanwhile the streak of misfortune continues for the familiar. But, there's still plenty spaces left to try again!
( Naieth has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Renathan digs in lot #78:
The efforts are rewarded, but careful that you don't push yourself too far! The ungulate would surely be happy to trade this for another 6 points at the booth, for the effort.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Renathan has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Auburn digs in lot #79:
The plot to the side seems mostly vacant and dry, almost overly so. The little familiar digs and digs and even manages to haul out one lumpy-looking rock that smells weird. The sight of the rock is quick to attract attentions, however, as a nearby historian passes, pauses, does a double-take and quickly rushes over. Oh! Not a rock at all! It looks to be fossilized bread! The excitement is quick to spread around, a few others gathering to inspect it, too afraid to even touch it. This.. This could it. This could be what they were ALL looking for (Except for the ungulate, who was looking for nothing and very much hope it would remain that way). Finally, with shaking hands, the historian reaches down and lifts the bread up.. And seems confused by its weight. Hang on.. why is it so.. light? They tap it, and a hollow noise sounds. Wait a minute.. They lightly scratch the surface, and the well-burn, well-carved layer of paint falls away, revealing a lightly off-white layer of plaster beneath. Oh.. Oh no. A replica! Nothing more than plaster and paint! The historian places it back down and one could almost swear to see their bottom lip quiver slightly, as they stand and leave with the rest. Ah well.. Oh, looks like there's a shiny coin there too! Shiny enough to net some 15 points at the booth.
( Auburn has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Nerius digs in lot #83:
Looks like no strength spell necessary, as there's a shiny gold coin in the dirt! Well.. yellow coin, not actually gold. Still, worth some 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Nerius has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Ice digs in lot #84:
Now the familiar on the other hand.. The diamond claws rake through the earth and seem to scratch against something soft. Brushing the dust away, it looks to be a paper bird! What unique style of folding! A nearby historian passes by and investigates, though they don't seem to suspect it's age as being all too old. Paper rarely survives the conditions of the dirt, unless in some unique circumstances.. But even a bird from last century is a find worth consider, as a bird from the last millennia! The bird is handled with considerably care, inspected for any clues or indications as to the era it's from. Even so, the historian remains sceptical, feeling the strength of the paper even as they turn it around. Eventually, the settle on a decision - It's much too new. In quite excellent state for being in the dirt, but none the less something recent to have survived so well. So, they hand it back and take their leave. Oh, and there's a green coin to match the green bird, found separately. While the bird might be worth some 20 points when traded, the coin's worth some 6 points at the booth.
( Ice has earned their owner 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kadin digs in lot #102:
Oh, hello.. It's not long before something sticks out of the dirt, and as you pull it out, it looks to be piece of reed.. but with holes! Oh, a flute! Well, a crude one, but certainly of interest to the historians. They approach and begin the usual inspections and discussions - where it's from, how old, what method, which culture, what era, possible methods of arriving to these lands - of which there is a plethora. In some ways one could almost say they seem to enjoy the debate half as much as the potential of a historic find! (Not that they've had luck thus far, and with each non-find they seem to strangely get more withdrawn and quiet). Eventually, the consensus is established - It's not an artefact. A little old, like maybe a few years considering the degradation of the edges where the reed was cut, but more someone's recent attempt at hobbyist music than any artefact of the ages. Thus, they hand it back, and take their (rather shoulder-slumped) leave.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Kadin has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Miles digs in lot #103:
The houluh might have trouble seeing this one at first, but the shape of it is unmistakeable! A shiny coin! Worth a very nice 12 points at the booth.
( Miles has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Flare digs in lot #70:
Looks like the stomach isn't the only thing empty, as this plot looks to be vacant of any finds..
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Flare has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Grendel digs in lot #80:
..But no the other one! A shiny golden-tinted coin can be found, worth some 3 points at the booth.
( Grendel has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Ashe digs in lot #75:
No finds can indeed be good finds, as far as the Fairground's future is concerned! Alas, this one also seems to have no coins, though..
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Ashe has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Inyala digs in lot #76:
..But not the other one! The little imp finds a nice golden shiny, worth some 3 points at the booth.
( Inyala has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Nadia digs in lot #49:
The hole probably appreciates the compliment, but alas has nothing to give in return for it.. Perhaps another one has better luck?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Nadia has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Linyü digs in lot #17:
Oh dear.. Well, much like in most games, sometimes people won and sometimes they lost. As it happened, this one just didn't have a win in it. Perhaps another?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Linyü has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Rei digs in lot #18:
Meanwhile, the harachiu happens upon something different to dirt and rocks.. and almost rusty. Digging the object out, it appears to be a pair of keys! Old ones! A historian approaches soon enough, to inspect the find and look it over for initial clues as to it's origin or age. They seem to agree that they're certainly old ones, but perhaps not as old as that.. For one, they seem to suspect these might be what fit a particular padlock found not too long ago, and since the lock itself was deemed outside their archaeological scope, alas so would these keys. There's only the faintest of bitter notes as they explain this, too, before they hand them back and turn to leave.
( Rei has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Fiera digs in lot #117:
Kicking over a rock, there's a small crack of something.. porcelain. While one's heart might stop at the noise, revealing the object shows it was already damaged to begin with, so the rock didn't exactly make it all too much worse. As if on cue, a historian shows up in short over, no sooner that the find is called out. They inspect it this way and that, turning it over, until finally finding the maker's watermark at the bottom of the cup, just beneath the edge of the gilding. The style of it is old, traditionally so, and the porcelain could survive for a number of centuries more or less intact (so long as no-one kicks rocks, at least), but the watermark makes it just.. oh, about eight years old - Apparently it's one of those mass-produced replicas of an older design. So, the historian offers it back, sighs, collects themselves, and leaves. The green coin rolling around in the cup wasn't much wanted either. It would be worth 6 points at the booth, tho.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Fiera has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Icarus digs in lot #115:
The hard work and deeper depths are soon rewarded, as a shiny gold coin comes to light! Its more yellow-tinted than gold, in truth, but still worth some 3 points at the booth.
( Icarus has earned their owner 3 points at the Booth for their work! )

The going was tough this time. Renathan pushed through the ground the best he could, perhaps overturning the spot a little less well than he would have had he not really tried far too hard in the beginning instead of waiting like he should have had to work harder towards the end. However, he does persevere, and he does bust into that water bottle he'd been planning on using. He drains about half of it in one large gulp in the middle of the work, and finally he stops towards the end corner of the plot, looking quite exhausted. He has one really nice coin in addition to the rest of his hoard to show for it, and he could not be more pleased. He surveys the green glint in the light, and then turns to see that Auburn was already behind him- and this time there was something quite important there indeed.
"What did you get there, Auburn?" He bends down to take a look.[Post 17] [Selections: 89 & 90]

It turned out that there was indeed something extra in Auburn's beak- she'd somehow managed to carry back to him both one of those incredibly shiny- nearly iridescent pale coins (he'd found a few of those already, and this one was perhaps the shiniest of all) but also something that certainly looked the part to him 'antique'. Someone is notified immediately to get the find looked at, and he takes it from Auburn after offering her a seed a piece for both finds. He is busy giving her plenty of pats and scritches as the find is checked out. He really thought that perhaps this time, he'd found something truly antique.
It turns out that he did not find anything that old. He tilts his head and frowns beneath the mask. Perhaps someone had found something old? Something that mattered? Then again, he didn't miss the sadness on the officiant's face. He raises a palm naturally, thinking to comfort the fellow- and then drops the hand. He didn't know the individual that well.[Post 18]

Leafy found another of those strange coins and a goodie bag in her area. Naieth came up empty handed, but she wasn’t about to let that discourage her. There were still plenty of places to search through and something exciting was bound to show up sooner or later. The girl scanned the rest of the plots, trying to predict which ones would yield them good luck. This time, they decided to stick together. Maybe that would help improve their luck for the both of them. Leafy decided to head towards the middle of the area. There were still some unclaimed plots that looked like they would be a good spot for digging. They moved into to spots right next to each other. She gave Naieth a quick thumbs up, trying to encourage her mining familiar. When they were done with this event, perhaps they’d hit up the mines again. It had been a while. They both started digging while Leafy daydreamed of wild adventures. [Squares 55, 56]

Renathan turns away to select another couple of slots. Choices were slim-pickings this time around, and he struggled to find an un-dug spot that had another spot next to it for Auburn to check out. Auburn follows close behind him until he selects two spots right next to one another. He points Auburn towards the further of the two outward, and gives her another soft scritch behind the ear. "Okay Auburn, F'rai!" Auburn rushes off yet again. She was such a good girl, Renathan was so pleased with how hard she was working for him. She deserved a really good treat of some kind after all of this, he decided.
He moves to the other spot, and then raises the shovel, his own arms shaking a tad. He wasn't sure if they'd have more slots after this round. There were so very few left! He decided to give it the rest of his all to check this spot. Hopefully he'd find something truly old, to make the officiant happier! He'd felt so bad, seeing him so sad with the latest not-quite-old find.[Post 19]

Nerius hadn't been entirely sure what kind of artifacts the historians had anticipated being dug up, the whole thing had been very vague as to just what anyone was looking for. He had to wonder if this was standard practice for a new lot to be developed, or if the historians actually suspected there would be a ruin here. Either way, a paper bird wasn't what he had been expecting, at it was fortunate Ice didn't shred right through it with her claws. She hadn't even cared about the little bit of paper, not even doing her usual protective posturing, and had been far more interested in the glass coin. Not that the paper bird was an archeological find, the consensus was it was far too new. Hardly surprising, paper didn't tend to last to long without a preservation spell.
It took him longer to find a digging spot this time, most of the grounds had been dug up by now, and many of what open spots there were already had diggers. But Nerius managed to find a pair of spaces.. and another one of those pumpkins. The last had contained little prizes, and he opened this one as well, before starting on the digging.

[Silver opens Winter Goodie Bag!] Silver would be disappointed that they hadn't found anything while digging around, but they were too excited about the contents of their goodie bags to worry about that. There were little Vulticus toys inside! Plus some candy, and some other trinkets. They giggled with delight, waving the little tail of the toy around with their hands like a child playing pretend. They bit their lip, looking at the last goodie bag. They hadn't meant to open it so soon, but they weren't sure they could resist. They waffled about it for just a moment before finally giving in and dumping out the contents of the last bag, too. Well, they had a break and they felt refreshed to start again. Silver briefly looked over Kylma to make sure he was still up for more digging. Of course he was. It was like he was purpose built for it! With that thought in mind, Silver gave Kylma the go ahead to get started. "Apparently I'm unlucky," they said with a smirk. Was that true? Probably not. "Best you pick the next spot." All of the various lab citizens were having a great time coming out and digging without a care in the world, but Kadin couldn't help but notice that the people overseeing them seemed to be getting less and less... encouraged. As time went on. He wished there was something he could do to make one of his finds legitimately exciting for them, but all they could really do was keep digging things up and hope for the best, it seemed. And so, with a shrug, Kadin came back with Miles to do just that. They chose a corner this time, off surrounded by already dug up location. Kadin figured that anywhere was fine at this point, there wasn't much use for strategy when the areas you could dig were quickly disappearing. All you could do was choose a spot and hope that your luck would hold out! Let's see if it did. [112 and 113] Posts: 7

Another hole, another... nothing. Ashe was good at digging, just not good at picking where to dig if he wanted to find anything! He gave a shrug and went to check on Inyala. To his surprise, the Imp had dug am impressive hole and was holding another of those glad coins in her fingers. She eagerly offered it up to Ashe, proud she had gotten something she could give him. He took it and thanked her, smiling at his familiar. "Guess it's my turn to pick up the slack," he said teasingly. But before he got back to digging, Ashe gestured that they should stop by the refreshments table for a quick cookie and a drink. He sipped, munched, and let Inyala finish hers, then he gazed about. What plot to pick next.... his gaze settled on two plots side by side and he went over to them, gesturing to Inyala to take the other one. She did, and started digging quickly, like a vulticus escaping under a fence! How did she have so much energy? Ashe heated the shovel up and broke ground.

What a bummer. Nadia couldn't complain too much, since it was the first time she'd come up empty-handed, but she wasn't going to pretend that she wasn't disappointed to not have another coin to add to her collection. A shame! Still, there were still a few plots left, and with those, a chance to make a new discovery.
The time had flown by quickly. She'd seen lots of people come and go, and the field was looking a bit like a bombsite, with scattered dirt and footprints littered everywhere. At least they were being thorough. It saved a lot of time, to have that many pairs of hands getting to work.
One last roll of the dice, then! Or... that was what she expected, at least, with the speed at which spaces were taken. She spied an unoccupied area and set about digging there, keeping an eye out for any familiar faces as she went. It wouldn't be so bad to stop for a chat...

Out of the corner of his eye, while he was digging, he happened to spot Silver, also digging... but he had some other kind of little goodie bag in his hands. It didn't look like the pumpkin one at all that he had, it was a snowman... He wondered where he got it from! Greedy? Yes, Ashe was. He was enjoying the goodie bags he'd gotten already and if there was a different one about...! He had to go find it. So he took a break from digging, called to Inyala, who hopped up onto his shoulder to avoid getting in anyone's way, and headed off to find out. He didn't think anyone would take their digging spot since it was already well dug.
It didn't take him long to find the booth their ungulate host had set up. Some items were set up with prices, probably stuff commonly found that people didn't want? Ashe glanced over those things and his eyes settled on - yes, more of those bags! "Excuse me, I'd like to buy some of those little snowman bags. Four of them, I should have enough points..."

Grendel loves to dig. She loves to dig even more with company. The dirt is flying in every which direction as she goes to town, making a sizable hole in the newest plot she got led to. Its so much fun to dig! As she gets deeper, the dirt gets wetter, and mud splatters her fur. Who cares, its fun to dig! Something shiny goes flying with one last pawful of dirt scraped away, and tinks close to her hole wall. oh? The houlou stops her mess making and turns to sniff at her find. Find thing! Its just big enough to take in her mouth and spit at her alpha's feet, with a bark and a wagging tail, then leaning happily on his pants. He backs off, making noises of dislike on the mud smears but she's just too happy to realize it. The gem is picked up, examined, she's rewarded and back they go to the next round.

The wood isn't alive under Flare's grip as he digs with no real success into the hole he's been working on for nearly half an hour. It is tiring work to continue like this. He stands, driving the spade into the ground by his feet, and gives a skyward stretch. A few pops in his shoulders and one down lower in his spine... aaah, such a good stretch. Grendel comes up to him at this point and spits a coin at his feet. She's COVERED in mud, and starts rubbing against him. {Grendel, no...} he groans with the fresh swath of mud on his plain poofy pants.... mud is so hard to get out of whites. But he rewards her good behavior for bringing him her find, and looks about. There's only a handful more plots to go, and with so many diggers and pets, this won't take much longer. The ...goat man is manning a stand by where the entry is, and he's got a prize board. His name is listed, and there's a handful of prizes to get. How about getting some goodie bags. "Four goodie bags please." -purchasing 4 winter goodie bags with points- 12.20

San had had no luck digging on his end, and was just about to give up and move on, but it seemed that Rei had found something after all. When the hubbub had died down, San knelt to pick it up, examining it more closely as he turned it over. There had been murmurings that it matched a lock someone had found earlier, but he hadn't been the one to make that discovery, and the idea of owning a set of keys for a lock he had never seen... It was useless to him, but he thought Seveth might like it, the way Seveth liked strange and useless things.
As he looked up and around for another place to dig, he noted that the lot had been worked through faster than he had thought. There was barely any space left. They didn't move around much, keeping to their corner of the plot, but it seemed that soon it would be time to wrap things up and go home.
