Renathan wondered casually, after he finally got the pyrite to a state where the next few swings could remove it, as to what Sarabi was digging out of the wall. He hoped that it wouldn't be something that was kind of ugly; they'd found so many gems so far that just weren't super interesting to him. He was not pleased to see that it was obsidian, judging by the shiny black color. He wished that he hadn't found so much of that so far! Renathan took out his bit of frustration on the pyrite vein, and it fell out of the wall. Renathan picked it up and cleaned it quickly, knowing that Sarabi would be done with the obsidian soon... He knew that this would suck. Renathan finished up the pyrite and then managed to put it in the pouch before Sarabi succeeded to pull out the obsidian piece. Renathan picks it up.

Renathan quickly begins cleaning the obsidian, hoping that they would find something to dig at soon that was more colorful and fun to look at. He was really crossing his fingers for that, anyway. Right now, he cleans off the obsidian and shoves it into a pouch quietly, and then begins looking around again, still surprised really. He was trying to keep his mind off of how surprised he was, but it was hard not to take it all in, it was magnificent! Well, that and Sarabi was also just as shocked and seemed to think it was just as odd. Renathan forced himself to take a breath again, and then he moved over to a vein that was quite rainbow-colored... Flourite? He hadn't seen any rainbow flourite before in the mines, he'd bought some, but never found any on his own. Renathan pulled the pickaxe back and began working at the wall, listening for Sarabi's working.

Finally, Renathan could hear the gargoyle begin to work on the wall nearby, and he was curious as to what she was digging for. Renathan needed to focus on this rainbow flourite, however, because it was a stone he would like to work with. It was a gorgeous rock, that was for sure. Renathan took a few good swings at it and then had to stop; his arms were really, really sore now, and shaking. Renathan set the pickaxe down for a moment, and then grabbed a bottle of water from his backpack again, hoping that he would calm his arms down after he took a quick break. The mammalian turned around to stare at Sarabi's rock, wondering what it was. Renathan could identify it as a peridot, and Renathan was glad that it was a really pretty stone that he could make into something... The question was, what would he make out of it?

Peridot was definitely a good gem, such a pretty green, almost luminescent. Renathan drank the water bottle to about half-way, and offered it once again to the gargoyle. She was uninterested, and just kept digging. Well, that was fine Renathan decided; and he drank the rest of it. They wouldn't be able to stay down here a whole lot longer, and he still wanted to find a crystal, and he hadn't managed to do so... That was sad. Renathan let his arms stop shaking before he picked up the pickaxe again. He was already sore, and he was sure that it would be hard to even move his arms, and probably even his side, after all this was said and done. Renathan managed to begin swinging again, however. He was determined to get the rainbow flourite out of that wall! He finally did, removing a large chunk. He turned around, and brought it up to his eyes to look it over.

The rainbow flourite was indeed gorgeous, even with it's carrier stone sitting atop it. Renathan was quiet for a moment, and then quickly began cleaning it up, removing the carrier stone with purposeful attempts with his smaller tools. After a while, he was happy with it, and then placed it down in his pouch. He turned around in time to see Sarabi pull the peridot out of the wall using her claws; she was very good at this, and it kind of shocked him in all honesty. Sure, she was a mining familiar, but he hadn't seen one do this yet. Then again, almost every time he had found a familiar, Renathan had seen the familiar with a hoard of gems... Perhaps this was how they did that? Renathan walked over and collected the peridot, giving Sarabi a pat since she was getting more used to him. Yes, this was doing quite well today!

Renathan knew that they would have to go home within the next few hours. Maybe a little earlier, since his arms were really tired. He settled back, putting the pickaxe back into his mining cart, and emptying the pouch into the mining cart. It had began filling up too far to put anything else in it, after all. Renathan began cleaning up the peridot he had just picked up, taking the shiny green stone out of the carrier stone and then he brought it up to his eyes and then to Sarabi's eyes so that she could see it. Afterwards, Renathan put it into the mining cart too. There was still a ton of gems here, but Renathan was going to have to take a good long rest himself. Sarabi, however, immediately moved on down the line, this time towards a vein of what Renathan could tell even from here was silver! That was good!

Renathan hoped that they would find more metals in the future too, he really needed some more metal if he was going to develop any more jewelry. Sure, that wasn't why he was specifically here today, but he did hope that he would find it just the same. He wondered how many more veins there were for them to look at; he really wasn't sure. Renathan leaned back against the shimmery black sandstone-looking wall to rest, suddenly feeling quite exhausted. It was beginning to catch up with him. However, Sarabi seemed to be enjoying herself today; it had been a while since she had been back down in the mines and he knew that she really loved to look for gems. Sarabi was getting into the stone quite easily, it crumbled beneath her claws. Finally, she was able to extract the vein of silver, and Renathan pushed himself up, trembling, to go retrieve it.

Renathan leaned back against the stone, his back feeling a bit itchy. He reached back with his right arm and just barely got to the area that was itchy in order to scratch it. He had the silver in his hands now, and he kept working on it after the itch was sated in order to get the carrier stone off of it. The carrier stone was the same as the walls, it appeared, which was odd. This area must have been very, very hot when it formed; with this much lavarock around. He wondered if he should take a bit of lavarock home too, there wasn't a whole lot he could do with it, anyway. By the time Renathan got the silver fixed up and then placed in his stone pouch, the first in it now that he had emptied the rest into his mining cart, the gargoyle was already working on yet another vein.

Renathan did decide that he wanted to grab some lava rock to take home; so he turned around and quickly used the pick-axe to remove a large chunk of it. It wasn't that hard at all. He then placed the pick-axe into the mining cart and the lava rock, so that he didn't have to worry about lugging them around. His arms were quite tired, after all! Renathan watched as the gargoyle continued to dig into the wall; this time it looked like the vein was that of another smokey quartz. Renathan could have groaned at this; he really did not like dark colored stones. But it was better than nothing, after all! He could sell it, at worst, he was sure. Renathan was quiet for a while, watching silently as the gargoyle continued to dig out the quartz from the wall. He wondered how one would be able to tell if a lava tube was about to be active or not... These were dangerous!

Renathan was still surprised at the fact that this area was a lava tube, and he thought about that while resting with his back against the wall, as Sarabi dug into the wall. He was glad that they had found this area, or perhaps Sarabi had known about it all along? Renathan was not sure. The mammalian knew that lava tubes meant lava had been here at some point, heating up the area and coating it with cooled and then dried lava, with plenty of veins trapped close to the surface for folks to find. However, if lava went through it again, they would not have time to get out before being burned to death... He sure hoped Sarabi knew what she was doing, and how to keep them safe; and perhaps even could figure out when a lava pour was imminent? The mammalian had no idea at all. However, he really didn't want to get burned up!

The gargoyle was able to pull the smokey quartz from the wall, and when she turned around to look at Renathan and give the gem to him, he was staring off into space. This was her first introduction to something that the mammalian did commonly; most of his other creatures seemed to realize that he needed to be pulled from these moments of reverie. Instead of that, the gargoyle grabbed the smokey quartz piece in her mouth and then dropped it onto Renathan's lap unceremoniously. Then, she returned to the wall and began digging at another vein in the wall. She wasn't going to give him any mind if he didn't want to work, himself. Hmph. Renathan, on the other hand, was pulled out of his thoughts as the smokey quartz fell on his lap, and then he realized that he really should be cleaning this stone and getting it out of the carrier rock.

Renathan grabbed his smaller tools and was happy to note that he didn't find it hard to remove the rock from its carrier stone despite the fact that his arms felt kind of like jelly. Perhaps it was because the lava rock was really soft? Yeah, that had to be why. Renathan finally finished pulling the smokey quartz out of it's carrier stone, and then he looked over it. This one was especially very smokey, almost opaque as opposed to translucent like he had been used to seeing these stones. The brown was still a bit ugly to him, and not at all interesting. He put the smokey quartz into his pouch, and then breathed out a sigh. He was quite tired; but he felt bad that he wasn't mining right now while the gargoyle was. She was already working on another of the veins, and Renathan needed to scoot closer to be able to see what kind of stone that this was.

This time, it appeared that the vein contained Aventurine, and Renathan was very happy with that! He really loved the pretty, speckled, green gemstone; he knew that this would make a great piece of jewelry, if it came out big enough to do so. Sarabi continued to dig at the wall until finally, after a long period of time, she was able to get a pretty large chunk out of the wall. She nosed it over to him, and Renathan picked it up to actually look into it. The stone was quite beautiful, speckled almost like a bright moss. Renathan was quite glad that they had found it, and Renathan carefully begins removing it from the carrier stone using his smaller mining tools. The day had been quite good so far, they had found so many gems already, and he was sure that they would continue to find even more as they stayed.

One lone gem sat on a little ledge. How lonely!
