Despite his efforts, the leopard's digging still came up empty. He couldn't help but feel just a little defeated, seeing the findings of those around him. But! He wasn't giving up. Only.. Taking a little break. The man wandered over toward the gargoyle, who was hastily digging at its own marked plot of dirt. And it seemed to be onto something. An intrigued hum escaped the leopard's throat as a dirty sapphire coin was unearthed. Varus took it up in its hands, turning it over and wiping the excess muck off. Even with the stony familiar's hands, the coin's partly cleaned surface gleamed in the light.
"Give, Varus", the leopard asked, holding out his hand. Given that the artifact was not exactly of gem or mineral make, the gargoyle was no longer interested in it. To the leopard it went. Xentus seemed pleased at finding -something- finally, even if not by his own hands, and went about searching for a new spot. "Xentus will keep hold of this, let us dig about some more, Varus"

Fiera digs in lot #5:
No rush, and no shinies, since it seems there's just this.. old seal-looking thing under a particularly sturdy rock in this place.. Oh wait. A seal-looking thing! The historians' attentions are quickly turned, and they rush over. Much time is spent debating the seal and any possible document or scroll it could have belonged to, whether a military missive, a law doctrine, letters between historical figured of the past.. any of it, really. The mud and wear on the seal makes for some heated debates as to the design, the one clue that could point them in the right direction.. Except when it's cleaned enough, there's a pause, as the collective stares at it. Was this.. was this imprint made with a TOY? The design is rather unmistakeably that of a Our Tiny Equi hoof. So.. just some toying around. They hand it back, hang their heads, and take their leave.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Fiera has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Icarus digs in lot #6:
Unfortunately, as the hara nears the designated plot, it seems someone had got there first and the area has been quite thoroughly searched. It's doubtful there's much else to be found.
Ashe digs in lot #111:
There's certainly a lot of mud here, but alas, nothing shiny..
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Ashe has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Inyala digs in lot #101:
..but the familiar certainly looks to be having a bit more luck, as something deep red shines back from a shallow hole. A glass coin crimson as blood! And worth some 12 points at the booth.
( Inyala has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kadin digs in lot #73:
Without a system, it seems to be very much a luck of the draw whether anything is found. Alas, this time the draw comes up a little short.
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Kadin has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Miles digs in lot #37:
Even the houluh isn't able to find anything, but fortunately there's still plenty of good solid squares to try again with!
( Miles has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Renathan digs in lot #64:
Slow and steady might yet win the race, as something bright and golden shines back! The ungulate would probably trade it for some 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Renathan has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Auburn digs in lot #65:
And better yet, the plot next to it seems to have a green variant! Similar enough to its cousin, but instead worth some 6 points at the booth.
( Auburn has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Silver digs in lot #106:
Ding! The trowel clinks against something.. well, relatively brittle, but fortunately undamaged, as the yellow coin is unearthed. Still worth a nice 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Silver has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kylma digs in lot #116:
Meanwhile the efforts of the halfbreed don't bring up any new shinies to attract a crowd, but it does produce a blue coin! Instead, worth some 9 points at the booth.
( Kylma has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Leafy digs in lot #38:
The shovel hits something hard, cracking open what looks to be an already cracked piece of granite. While it might make one's heart jump a little, at the though it might have been something important, there does seem to be a cavity behind it with.. well.. something of a cache of items! An old padlock sitting among them, it's interesting enough to bring a few of the historians over, who inspect it. Padlock technology isn't generally all that old, especially more complicated types, and though they do spend some time on it, they eventually determine it's still far too new to hold any historical significance. Ah well, Antelmo's still good to trade it for some 20 points at the booth, along with 3 for the yellow coin and 6 for the green.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Leafy has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Naieth digs in lot #120:
The halfbreed, meanwhile, does their best, but alas it seems all luck was spent on the other lot.
( Naieth has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Linyü digs in lot #7:
Well, on the up side there's nothing here to draw a crowd! But.. on the down side, there's nothing here..
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Linyü has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Rei digs in lot #8:
Looks like the other plot doesn't have much better luck than the first, either.
( Rei has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Flare digs in lot #81:
It seems the historians don't get too far in their retreat when something else, this time something soft, seems to hit the shovel. It's a good thing the stroke wasn't too strong, as the object seems quite unsuited to receiving any sorts of cuts - How else would one keep water in a waterskin when its got a gash on the side? Even so, it's seen some patchwork, and the historians do find the snakeskin a puzzling material. Some even wonder if this might be some far-flung artifact from the deserts? Perhaps brought along by caravan? Or a remake by a local, to fit the aesthetic? The more they investigate, the more they realize it's not actually that old.. Seems part of the inside is a metal container, making it a far more modern production than they'd like. Aesthetically interesting, but historically dull.. So, they merely hand it back, and take their leave.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Flare has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Grendel digs in lot #82:
Meanwhile, the houluh is certainly have a time of their life digging through the ground. They don't necessarily find anything, but there's still plenty digging opportunity to go!
( Grendel has earned their owner 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Nadia digs in lot #85:
Fortunately the aching arms are rewarded with a bright red coin! It's glass surface seeming translucent and crimson, pretty enough to earn some good 12 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Nadia has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Xentus digs in lot #91:
It could be the day or the fates or whatnot, but it just doesn't seem to be having much luck here either. Perhaps another spot has better luck?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Xentus has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Varus digs in lot #92:
Even the gargoyle seems to come up a little short, though best not give up!
( Varus has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )

The two of them didn't move around much, though San could see that the other participants wandered more widely about between the numbered lots. Perhaps they had some secret schemes or personal superstitions that dictated their choices. However, he was content to simply work his way methodically inward from the outer edge of the plot. It kept things simple, and he had never been one for the kind of superstition that believed in things like lucky numbers anyway.
He dug around for some time, but ultimately turned up nothing this time; his particular spot had nothing of interest in it whatsoever. Rei, who had been searching the adjacent patch of dirt, also shook her head when he straightened and gave her a questioning look. Their luck, such as it was, had run out for the moment, but neither of them seemed terribly perturbed by it. They merely moved on to a different area of yet undisturbed soil.

Oh, more coins! Silver quickly put their coin into a little pouch where they had collected the others. Would the booth still accept them, even if they were a little chipped? They had to, right? How else would people be digging them up? They wandered over to where Kylma was, just in time to see him dig up another coin as well. They were raking it in! Silver laughed and picked up the coin to add it to the others. "Good one, Ky!" they said. They rubbed his fur with their dirty hands, no longer concerned about the both of them being stained the color of soil. It would wash off... eventually. "Let's take a break, alright?" they said. They knew Kylma seemed to be having fun, but they wanted to make sure he got plenty of rest, too. They pulled a wooden bowl and a bottle of water out of their bag, then filled the bowl from the contents of the bottle. "Have some water, then I'll give you some treats," they said. [Silver Opens Goodie Bags x2] The odd little treats kept showing up. Silver wondered why. Was that how the holiday worked? Everyone got treats somehow? Yea, that sounded right. They tipped another pair of the bags out onto the ground, eager to see what was inside of them. They could never say no to candy and toys! After they had a chance to rest, and Kylma had plenty to eat and drink, Silver figured that they could get started on digging again. Kylma seemed healthy and not overworked, and they felt fine, so they could take on a few more squares. There was always the promise of a mysterious treasure to motivate them. Though they weren't sure it'd ever be found at this rate. There was a treasure, right? Silver had forgotten why, exactly, they were all doing this. Ah well, they were sure they'd figure it out soon enough. They made their way over to a less crowded area, and began to dig again. If nothing else, it was turning into a relaxing way to spend the day. Finds: [132.5, 9.4]

The strike of the shovel into the softer material took the elementally blessed tumaian by surprise as he pulls back on the tool. Its softer then the average strike though. He crouches down and dusts off... a waterskin. The material is unusual, he's never seen a waterskin that wasn't made of leather. The audience sees him holding something that isn't a pile of dirt or a coin of color, swarming him fast. They're arguing over its origin, its material, what it could've been held inside. Flare has to angle his head at an extreme angle... because the patchwork looks older, but still sound. The humans argue a bit, pull on its strap, and finally squash the skin several times, and hand it back to him. Armmm? Grendel's at his heel, sniffing at the object in his hand. She doesn't look pleased, so she wasn't successful in digging anything up, but had found another baggie. He'll check if it can hold liquid with no leaks, because everyone needs a good waterskin, even one with a patch or two. [/font]

Ashe dug and dug... mud sloshed back into the hole the further down he got. It was getting annoying! He finally gave up, figuring he'd dug deep enough and hadn't found anything, and wasn't going to. He dug once more in frustration as the mud stuck to his shovel, then he climbed out of his hole and went over to check on Inyala. Her hole seemed more dry, and she had managed to dig deep enough to find something red. It glinted pleasantly, and Ashe thought it was quite lovely, like something he would make into a charm. He praised his Imp and pocketed the treasure, then he grabbed the shovel and started looking for a new plot to dig. He found one, nodded for Inyala to take the adjacent one. She scampered off and Ashe lifted his shovel. Right when he was about to Spear the ground, he noticed a gift bag. Oh sweet! He scooped it up, planning to open it soon. But he wanted to dig first!

Artifact excavations were an activity Nerius was very familiar with, though one he hadn't participated in for years. The Labs, for all their current magic, wasn't dotted with old ruins the way his homeland was, and most the interesting relics were imported rather than excavated. At least, that were available to the public, who knew what went on behind closed doors. This hardly looked like a ruin either, but given the flyer had called it a "fairground" that wasn't a unexpected. Much of it looked to have been already dug up, perhaps half the area, and Nerius headed for an area that didn't look like it had seen too much action, claiming a pair of roped off sections. He'd brought Ice along to help, and though she was a little confused at it being soft dirt instead of hard mines stone, she'd been trained to dig, and with a bit of encouragement, was soon excavating efficiently. More efficiently than Nerius himself, even with a shovel to help, the dirt was quite heavy, and the gem dragon was turning over her own plot much faster than he was.

Ashe and Inyala dug in silence for a while, but curiosity was starting to nag at the back of Ashe's mind and distracted him. He tried to push forward and finish the dig, but he had to take a pause and open the gift bags. He had three now! Three chances to find really cool stuff! So he paused, shoved his shovel into the dirt, and grabbed those gift bags. They were easy enough to open, thank goodness, so he made quick work of them. While he was opening them, Inyala glanced over and saw her master wasn't working, but also hadn't found anything and he didn't look done. Then she saw the items in his hands and she knew. Ashe could hardly contain himself when he wanted something; Inyala could only do so much to help his self control. She decided he didn't need her assistance and continued to work, for the better of them both. Once Ashe opened them, he would pick up the shovel again and continue with the task at hand. Icarus skittered off to the side as someone else rushed to take his place in the plot. "Rude..." He hissed under his breath, but Fiera didn't even look at him, shaking her head as she worked. "You've got to be quicker than that!" She trilled, but the harachiu just rolled his eyes. "Oh, sure. Let the guy who's less than a foot tall fight his own battles." "You've just got to stab more ankles, dear." Fiera replied nonchalantly, before pulling a little piece of paper out of the ground. It was a mere scrap, but the archeologists flitting about practically swarmed her. She puffed her chest out in pride as they looked it over. "Oh, yes, well, it's all in the wrist." She said, examining her nails... only for one of them to shove it back at her. "You think this is funny? Yeah yeah, make a fake document. Jerk..." The nearest one scoffed before stalking away. Fiera stood there in shock for a moment. "...Well! It's not MY fault they can't uh... take a good joke." She said, looking at the paper. It looked like something ancient to her... or at least dirty. "I suppose we should pick another spot, eh Icarus." She said with a nod, shoving it in her pocket. Inventory: (Fiera digs in 57 and Icarus in 58)

Show name: Walk a Mile Call name: Miles Gender: Male Species: Common Houluh Level: 20 [1/5] Loyalty: 42 [2/5] -stats- Stamina: 2 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 5 Special Abilities: None Moves: Bite Training Tricks Known: Name (1), Heel (1), Come (1), Search (2), Sit (1), Stay (1), Hold (1), Drop (1), Lay Down (1), Combat Crawl (2), Race (3) A couple days later and they were back again. Kadin didn't have much luck last time, but that did nothing to stop the appeal of coming back again to try his luck. He set out with Miles, as usual, to get them set up to see if they could find something this time. Each time they set out he felt they might just get lucky, but chances were they wouldn't find much of anything, just like many of the other times. This time Kadin had him and Miles search some plots that were near each other, figuring that would be easier so that they could support each other if necessary. He set out to digging up his square and had his houluh search out the area nearby, trying to scope out anything Kadin might miss by focusing in too much on one spot. Even if they didn't end up finding something this time, at least he was spending some time with his houluh, right? [51 & 61]

The plots selected, and Auburn ordered to search, Renathan makes relatively short work of the plot that he'd selected for himself. Though he was beginning to get tired (two relatively tough plots would do that to anyone, he was sure) this plot seemed to be much easier on him over all. It did not have a lot of obstructions, no gravel at the very least. There was not another find to be found there, it would seem- save for a lovely coin with some excellent shine to it. He lifts the coin and cleans it up with a spare cloth, and then waves the cloth to dislodge some of the dirt. Within minutes of him being finished, Auburn rushes over as well- this time with a pretty green coin in her beak. "Good job, Auburn!" He tells her, trading her a little seed for the shiny thing she had located.
The plots now searched, he decided to start looking right away for another selection of plot- one for the each of them.[Post 12] [Selections: 62 & 63]

As they did last time, Renathan decided to move down a couple more numbered plots for the both of them; but this time he could clearly see someone close. Apparently after this one, they were going to need to move. That was concerning for him to say the least; undoubtedly plots that were closer together were starting to be in less regard, and he'd hate to muscle in between someone else's claims. Ah well, he'd worry about that when he got there, he decided.
He takes Auburn to the plot labeled 63, and he gave her the command yet again. "Auburn, F'rai!" The little Izer took off. If she was growing tired of doing this by this point, she was certainly not showing it at all. She bounced over here, and then over there- searching for 'shinies' as he'd taught her to do a year or two ago now.
Renathan decides to take the plot labeled 62 for himself. He hoped for softer ground, and decided to go slow and steady on the work again. He needed to save his energy for the long haul, and it seemed to be working well for him.[Post 13]

To her surprise, the area she had chosen to dig in rewarded her greatly with treasure. The most exciting thing was the strange padlock that she pulled free from the dirt. She held it up to the light, scrutinizing its value despite her not really knowing what it was. Whatever it was, she would hang onto it for sure. In addition, there were two more glass coins hidden away. She grabbed her entire haul and placed them carefully in her backpack alongside her other finds. Now she was really contemplating trading some things in at that strange booth she had caught sight of earlier. Leafy then met up with Naieth who seemed a bit disheartened that she hadn’t found anything on her last digging attempt. The girl tried to cheer her up by showing her the treasure she had found. Then it was time to pick new areas to dig. Leafy moved close to the beginning of the plot of land while Naieth stayed next to the one she had dug in last time. They then both set out to dig. Nadia was getting sore. It was a little embarrassing, considering that the digging was not terribly strenuous - it showed her just how little she had been doing lately, and would hopefully give her encouragement to get back to working out regularly. Even if it was shovelling muck at the stables.
She'd been endeared by the trinkets that she had gathered in her expeditions. It was less than she might've gotten had she been working alongside a companion, but she was content; the pretty coins were a kind of siren call that kept her going. Who knew what kind of rewards she could get if she traded at the booth? Well... she might've done, had she taken the time to observe, but that would come later. For now, it was to the next plot, and the next discovery! She half wondered as she dug her spade into the earth if anyone was going to find themselves a pot of gold.
